WHAT ARE CHRISTIANS FRIGHTENED OF?
It's been suggested that Ethics be taught in schools alongside Religious Studies. Why not? Sounds like a good idea to me. At the 2006 census 18% of Australians declared that they have "No religion". The figure is probably closer to 20% by now. That being so, why should their children be taught nonsense about walking corpses (zombies), original sin, blood atonement, hellfire and a talking snake?
As things stand at the moment, children of humanist parents are plonked in another room, sometimes the library, and told to occupy themselves. This is a waste of a period and the children are made to feel like rejects.
Why are Christians opposed to Ethics? The reason is because Ethics is relevant to the 21st century whereas Christianity is not. Christian parents are worried that their children might be bright enough to realise that cadavers don't spring back to life, that snakes and donkeys can't talk, and the sun doesn't revolve around the Earth. If one in five children is being taught the truth instead of a whole heap of superstitious mumbo-jumbo, the truth will spread and their little brainwashed darlings might start asking awkward questions.
Muslims claim that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. That may be so, but "No religion" outstrips Islam ten to one! Even in the USA, the most backward-thinking western nation in the world, 10% say "No religion". In Britain it's 44%. In New Zealand it's 32% and in Scandinavia it's 74%.
Christian parents are clinging to their religion like a drowning man to a twig. They are desperate to have their children absorb the same religious hocus-pocus that was jammed into their brains when they were children. But today's children are brighter than their parents. Given half a chance they'll engage their brains and sift shit from Shakespeare.
When they do, hopefully they'll notice that Gods and nuclear bombs don't mix. Very bad bedfellows.
Sooner or later, religious crazies will trigger a nuclear war and that will be the end of that. "Born Again" Christians will be "raptured" into the sky to meet Jesus (tee hee!) while you and your loved ones will be burned to a cinder down here on Earth. Or worse still, eaten by rats, cockroaches and fleas.
Either we kill religion or religion kills us.
You choose.
